cape town workshop week
In a remarkable partnership with the Wise Economy Global Association, BWEN found its place on the ‘My Period Is Awesome’ platform. Living up to our motto, “We Are Better Together,” this collaboration offered us an invaluable opportunity to expand our network, enrich our experience, and deepen our knowledge.
In 2019, we had the privilege of participating in the ‘My Period Is Awesome’ workshop week in Cape Town, South Africa. This event was a resounding success, providing us with fresh insights and innovative ideas in the realms of advocacy, activism, and community mobilization.
South African partner, Sonke Gender Justice, conducted enlightening workshops on advocacy, governance, and the financial and ethical requirements for NGOs. Simultaneously, Wise Economy spearheaded sessions on method development, offering a valuable resource for activists and paving the way for grassroots organizations to join the ‘My Period Is Awesome’ platform.
Despite being newcomers, BWEN made a significant contribution to the event. We showcased our creative tools in advocacy and initiated conversations on topics often shrouded in shame, specifically menstrual health management. This platform allowed us to bring these critical issues into the light, fostering understanding and empathy.
One of the highlights of our participation was the introduction of our photo campaign, #NoPeriodShame. The initial photos for this campaign were taken during the workshop week, marking the beginning of a powerful movement aimed at breaking down the barriers of stigma and shame associated with menstruation.
BWEN’s involvement in the Cape Town workshop week was a transformative experience. It not only enriched our understanding and skills but also reinforced our commitment to empowering marginalized communities and promoting menstrual health management
